Publisher Description: Given the extensive use of ICT in schools across the world, today's students need to be information literate, independent learners. This book presents a review of information literacy in schools, including students' use of the web, and focuses on the key issue of transfer. It is often assumed that students will transfer information literacy practices across subject and time, but this study shows that most students are unlikely to transfer these practices. This book will be useful for school policy makers, teachers and teacher librarians, as it presents evidence of how a rethinking of the teaching of information literacy, and the development of a culture of transfer, will contribute to the development of information literate students. The book includes a substantial literature review on information literacy and transfer, and the study's methodology and findings. A grounded theory of information literacy and transfer in schools is then presented. |
