Publisher Description: The engaging narrative and colorful illustrations of BABY ANIMALS OF THE NORTH introduce youngsters to the wonderful creatures of the North Country--polar bears, caribou, wolves, fox, lynx, musk oxen and, of course, grizzly bears. An appendix at the back answers additional questions children might have about how big a walrus is when it is born or how long does a baby moose stay with its mother. |
Contributor Bio(s): Main, Katy: - Author and illustrator Katy Main was a preschool teacher in Alaska for twenty-five years. She was a member of the National Association for the Education of the Young Child and the American Montessori Society. She earned a bachelor of fine arts in illustration from the University of Alaska Anchorage. BABY ANIMALS OF THE NORTH grew out of Main's love for art, children, and the forty-ninth state. She researched the book for five years and eventually filled twenty-two notebooks with information about Alaska's flora and fauna. It was her hope that the book would stimulate in early readers a sense of wonder and appreciation of the animal families with whom we share the earth. |
