After she had children, she told and read stories to them, but her children's stories became more important when grandchildren and then great-grandchildren wanted to hear them. Louie the Duck became a character in a series of adventures for her grandsons, three Zabel brothers. Every time she visited, they wanted another Louie story. She began to write them when they wanted a repeat of an earlier story. Now, she has twenty-two diff erent Louie the Duck stories ready to be shared. Vivian Zabel lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, with her black cat, Panther, who has his own series of books.
