Publisher Description: This is a book about a Swedish baron who lived in Africa between 1912 and 1938 and who, after his coffee farm and marriage to the author Karen Blixen failed, became a white hunter, leading safaris for the international social elite in East Africa. He organized every detail of opulent safaris for the Prince of Wales, the Vanderbilts, and the wealthiest Americans and titled British between the wars. This contributed to the decimation of wildlife in East Africa in the face of the growing conservation movement. He was also a market hunter of ivory in Kenya, Tanganyika, and the Congo. |
