Publisher Description: First performed and recorded in Berlin in 1880, Scottish Fantasy ranks among Max Bruch's most enduring compositions. Dedicated to the virtuoso violinist Pablo de Sarasate, it was performed by Joseph Joachim at its premiere. Bruch's composition reveals his romanticism, fluent scoring, and lifelong interest in folk music. Although the composer never visited Scotland, he acknowledges the country's tradition of harp music by giving the instrument a prominent role. Scored for violin and full orchestra, the work consists of a four-movement fantasy on Scottish folk tunes. Featured melodies include "Auld Rob Morris," "The Dusty Miller," "I'm Down for Lack of Johnnie," and "Hey Tuttie Tatie." This authoritative score is an unabridged reproduction of the original German edition. |
