All of our bargain books are brand new, perfectly readable and represent a tremendous value! The bargain books are, however, publisher overstocks and remainders that TRW purchases at deep discounts. As a result, they may have a small mark through the UPC bar code or a small mark on the side of the book. This is simply to mark the books so they cannot be sent back to a publisher. Because of this, bargain books are non returnable to TRW unless they are damaged. Please consider this before ordering.

From criminals to lawmakers, police, and punishments, this series takes a chronological look at criminal behavior and justice. First-hand accounts are dramatic, but the text tends to sensationalize ("History has been full of screams from people being punished"). The pages are crowded with faux blood spatter, contemporary and archival photographs and drawings, and sidebars--contributing to a choppy read. Reading list, timeline. Glos., ind. Gr 6-9 -Presented in an appealing style, these books offer glimpses into the dark side of human history. Crime looks at violations of the law from ancient times to the present, giving insight into criminals, types of crime, and methods of solving it. Prisons looks at the history of these institutions and the reforms that have taken place over the years from the days of the medieval castle dungeon to modern Supermax prisons. Punishment shows the painful consequences of crime through torture and death, from the 1500s to the present. Each subject is presented with one key element per page, with illustrations, photographs, and sidebars. A word bank on each page introduces or reinforces new or unfamiliar words. The subject, format, and presentation of material in these books will inform students, including reluctant readers.-Denise Moore, O'Gorman Junior High School, Sioux Falls, SD
