Contributor Bio(s): McDaniel, Anita K.: - Anita K. McDaniel is an Assistant Professor of Speech Communication at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. She received her B.A. degree in Speech Communication from Texas A&M University, her M.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from the University of Houston, and her Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. For twelve years prior to working at the University of North Carolina, she taught and conducted research in her areas of specialization at Augusta State University and her two graduate study universities. Currently, she presents papers at national communication conferences on the intertextual play between the visual and written texts represented in comic books, and publishes edited volumes and chapters in books in other areas of popular culture.McDaniel, Clyde O.: - Clyde O. McDaniel is a Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. He received his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Fayetteville State University, North Carolina Central University, and the University of Pittsburgh respectively. His areas of specialization are applied social research, social problems, and urban sociology. His professional experiences span the spectrum, over a 39-year period, from teaching in public school to colleges and universities in the northeastern, southwestern, and southern parts of the United States. He has directed research centers in school systems and universities; he has served in various university administrative capacities; and he has consulted, given editorial assistance, and presented papers throughout the country and abroad. He is a prolific writer, having published more than 80 works including four books (one on black leadership). Until recently, he wrote and published a weekly newspaper column and hosted a weekly radio talk show.
