In 1893, the streets of New York are teeming with life and excitement, but also many dangers. For 13-year-old Maks Geless, a newsboy, the chief of these dangers is Bruno, the leader of the Plug Ugly Gang, which is determined to take control of all of the newsies on the Lower East Side for its own nefarious purposes. Maks must also find a way to free his sister Emma from the city jail where she has been imprisoned for stealing a watch from the new luxury Waldorf Hotel.
