Publisher Description:
Leonid Nikolaevich Andreev - Russian writer. The first book of short stories, published in 1901, was highly appreciated by critics and he almost immediately became a literary celebrity. The first works of Andreev were imbued with a critical analysis of the contemporary world. However, in the early period of the writer's work showed his main motives: extreme skepticism, lack of faith in the human mind, there was a fascination with spiritualism and religion. His fame after 1905 Andreev mainly obliged success as a playwright. His first play appeared in 1905, and subsequently published at least one play a year. The Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 forced the writer to move to Finland, where he denounced the communist publicist pen dominance at home. Andreeva works distinguishes the sharpness of contrasts, unexpected plot twists in conjunction with the schematic simplicity of style.
