Publisher Description: -a+u 19:01 describes the projects and design strategies of an emerging generation of architects under 45 in Switzerland The January issue of a+u 19:01 describes the projects and design philosophy of an emerging generation of architects in Switzerland. This issue is presented in collaboration with Andreas Ruby, the director of SAM Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel. Each of the featured architects is younger than 45 and represent a shift of design in Swiss architecture. Since the 1990s, Swiss architecture has been known worldwide for its strict minimalism. Critics have noted how this dominant trend has restricted design and ask how current architects will move beyond this legacy. Andreas Ruby addressed this issue in his first SAM exhibition Schweizweit, and the theme is continued in this issue. Projects that represent a more inclusive and diverse strategy are presented from practitioners such as BUREAU and Leopold Banchini Architects. Text in English and Japanese. |
