June Callwood (1924-2007) lived a life determined by a strong concern for social justice, especially on issues affecting children and women. She became one of Canada's most famous social justice activists, founding or co-founding over 50 Canadian social action organizations including youth and women's hostels. In 1978, she was made a member of the Order of Canada. June died on April 14, 2007, from cancer.


Contributor Bio(s): Barber, Terry: - Terry Barber is the author of over 40 biographies for Grass Roots Press. Before turning to writing, he did training in both corporations and First Nations communities. Terry also co-wrote and directed The Gift of Self-Esteem, a 13-part television series featured on Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. Terry and his wife live on Canada's west coast.
