Contributor Bio(s): Spivey Gilchrist, Jan: - Jan Spivey Gilchrist is a fine artist and author whose career spans decades and continents. She has written and illustrated picture books and is the beloved illustrator of many books by 2018 Virginia Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award winner, author Eloise Greenfield. Jan is a Coretta Scott King Book Awards winner, and her heartwarming art has been awarded numerous "bests," including by Bank Street College Best Books for Children, the Junior Library Guild Best Book, and the NAACP's Image Award nomination for her illustration of The Great Migration. An inductee into the International Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent, Dr. Gilchrist obtained her Ph.D. in English and holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in writing, art, and education. She is passionate about combining the imagery and lessons from her past into works of art all children can enjoy.
