Publisher Description:
This book is about Singing, Rapping, Acting and Dancing, and also Secondary English Language Arts, but mostly about the Brain. LISTENING to Music lights up the whole brain, according to Suomen Acatemia (Academy of Finland). Just imagine what happens inside the brain when one PERFORMS with music containing content lyrics with the subject being English Language Arts and music written, in this case, to have a Swinging Big Band Sound. A sound that could be very appealing to our kids in school while being presented with a very different atmosphere for learning. As seen from the Composer and Writer's own education, experience, and knowledge gained from research, she states: Music Provides Entrance into the Brain's Global Network of Learning Pathways ... Selecting and Connecting ... Resulting in greater possibilities for LEARNING FASTER, RETAINING LONGER, and More So, while learning and reviewing language arts content through these Global Brain Workouts, that her music presents, it is hoped that students will experience academic content and music simultaneously that will open the doors to new pathways of learning. Of course, it is hoped that students will gain in their knowledge of the ELA content while having wonderful music experiences performing to music with those same lyrics. This content level may be thought to be more middle school and too easy for high school students, but please remember that this content is included in the public school curriculum throughout the twelfth grade in increasing levels of difficulty each year. So, for students who feel very at home with this ELA level, the Global Brain Workouts could be very beneficial to the higher grade levels for brain exercise, alone. They could also be beneficial in improving studentachievement and boosting their confidence. This music project was written not only to be used at school, but also to be used at home. There is a TEACHER & PARENT BOOK with everything you would need to teach any part of this project. Certain pages are reproducible, such as: the Lyrics, Scripts, and Student Music Book. Vocal/Piano Accompaniments are also included, but not reproducible. There is also a Companion SHOW TRAX CD that has to be purchased separately. It has two sets of TRAX. The first set, most use for Practice and is recorded with vocals. The second set is for Performance and instrumental, only. Feel free to use the total program, parts, or part that you choose. The Writer/Composer and all the arrangers, performers and transcriptionists for the CD are pictured with their bios at the end of the Parent & Teacher Book. In closing, Donna said, "I know you will enjoy teaching SING IT RAP IT ACT and DANCE ... in Our ELA Test Revue, as you observe your students' enthusiasm while singing words they never thought would be coming from their mouths in song.
