Publisher Description: I've heard it said that temperaments are not hereditary, but I beg to differ. At the age of seventeen and eleven months I got married and threw my first temper tantrum. Behaviors are unique to each child, and their personality exemplifies individual behavioral traits. Their unique behavior and personality draw me to work with these precious children. Without adequate coping skills, children are medicated or must figure out how to navigate their behavior issues alone. In my opinion for some children, medication helped them focus or calm that raging storm inside of them, but for others medication just became a quick fix for their behavioral issues. I understand these children because I also carried similar traits of stubbornness, defiance, tantrums and rage. In my experience I was held unaccountable for my behavior, I was provided an excuse for my outburst, and all that accomplished was giving me permission to have a reason for my issue. The difference for me came when I found the tools I needed to adjust my behavioral thermometer from hot temper explosions to a chilled out setting. I know there is hope for each child because when I say, "I understand" what I am saying is: I was that child |
