Publisher Description:
While you won't find 'the Salish Sea' on many maps, locals have given that name to the large body of water that dominates the coastal Pacific Northwest. Stretching between Olympia, Washington and the top of the Straits of Georgia in British Columbia, this long arm of the Pacific Ocean pokes its salty fingers deep into the land. For boating it is a natural wonderland overflowing with anchorages, towns, beaches, mountains, and abundant wildlife. This book is a tapestry of stories from the many years my husband Chris and I have spent cruising the waters of the Salish Sea. Too random to be a cruising guide, instead it is a series of stories sectioned into two parts; our adventures first in the northwestern United States and then in Canada, with a short interlude on the Chesapeake Bay tossed in the middle. In some of them we are on board for the summer, in others for a weekend cruise. Sometimes a child is with us; usually Heather, our youngest. We in the Pacific Northwest are privileged to have some of the finest cruising grounds in the world. Chris and I enjoy the scent of pine, the cries of eagles, the blush of the sun rising and setting, the bounty of the sea caught with fishing pole and crab trap, and most importantly the peace and simplicity of life in our floating home.
