Originally published in 1903, the author has given the results of his experience in the hunting fields of Leicestershire and the surrounding counties, and has treated his subject from a dual standpoint for which his earlier work so fits him of hunting historian and hunting correspondent. His chapters are almost all practical, though he digresses where necessary to critisise, always briefly and to the point, such modern questions as the presence of ladies in the field, the latest development of the capping system, and the question of hunting dress and hunting morals. This is a fascinating novel of the period and still an interesting read today. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
