Annotation: A rocking narrative ballad with an upswing tropical beat and an upbeat message about friendship and a child's deep bond with nature, this new edition of "Follow the Moon" is sure to delight another generation of children. A newly hatched sea turtle, whose instinct is to "follow the moon" to find the ocean, is drawn instead by a glittering mirrored ball in a crowded dance club. He is rescued by a young boy who helps him learn to listen to the voice inside his head.

PreS-Gr 2?Not all songs make coherent books. Weeks's offering, which includes a cassette tape attached to the back endpaper, is a case in point; it works better as a musical recording than as a story. The somewhat confusing plot concerns a newly hatched sea turtle who, for unexplained reasons, does not have the necessary instinct to follow the many other turtles toward the moonlight and into the ocean. Instead, it only reaches the water the following night thanks to a boy who protects it during the day and redirects it when the turtle heads toward a moon-shaped light fixture. The realistic pictures present an attractive boy on a beach lined with palm trees and populated by light-skinned people. Some of the illustrations nicely capture the expressions and stance of a caring young child and the newborn turtle. But even with the tape, this is a slight selection.?Kathleen Odean, Moses Brown School, Providence, RI
