All of our bargain books are brand new, perfectly readable and represent a tremendous value! The bargain books are, however, publisher overstocks and remainders that TRW purchases at deep discounts. As a result, they may have a small mark through the UPC bar code or a small mark on the side of the book. This is simply to mark the books so they cannot be sent back to a publisher. Because of this, bargain books are non returnable to TRW unless they are damaged. Please consider this before ordering.

This beginning social studies series compares past and present forms of communication, work, housing, etc. Drawings and archival photographs contrast drastically with full-color contemporary scenes. Kids will enjoy identifying old-fashioned radios and other outdated objects, but the series is marred by overly simplistic comparisons, occasionally stilted Spanish, and uneven back matter (for example, La vida en la escuela has only one glossary entry). Leisure-time activities and home life are examined by contrasting today's world with random "long ago" points in time. Each page features a clear photograph and one line of text; both books make generalities that could confuse young children. Fun doesn't draw many meaningful contrasts, which might lead kids to wonder if much has changed at all. Simple picture glossaries are appended. Ind.
